Here is a timeline of development for Rotary District 9101 which charts the emergence of Rotary in West Africa

History Of District 9101 and West African Rotary Clubs

10th July 1939  – Charter of Rotary Club of Dakar Doyen

1931 – 1957 – Rotary Clubs set up in Cote D’Ivoire & Cameroun

1958 – Rotary arrived in Ghana

1959 – 1968 – Rotary now in Mali, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Benin, Niger & Togo

1968  – First Rotary Convention in West Africa 21st – 23rd March with twelve clubs

1968/9 – 1972/3  – RI had Administrative Coordinators overseeing the clubs in these countries

1972  – Number of clubs in sub region had increased to 33 and RI decided to create a district

1972 – 1973  – District 210 was formed with First District Governor Francois Amorin. DAC took place in Lome, Togo in April 1973.

1977 – 1978 – District re-designated District 910. Other countries joined including Chad, The Gambia, Mauritania & Guinea

1981 – 1982 – Nigeria left D910 to create four new districts 911, 912, 913 & 914. Also Cameroun, Chad and Mauritania were annexed to neighbouring Districts

1985 – Burkina Faso joined the District

1991 – 1992 – District 910 became 9100

1992 – Two Portuguese speaking countries joined the district – Cape Verde & Guinea Bissau. By this time District 9100 was the largest in rotary by size with 14 countries, 3 official languages, 77 clubs and a membership of 2112 Rotarians

2013 – Re-districting occurred with Ghana, Togo, Benin and Niger forming D 9102 and the remaining ten countries now forming D 9101
